In 1992, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ) received a donation from Erik Rönnberg, Fagerdal, Hammerdal, for the purpose of supporting young researchers studying the aging process and age-related diseases.

Two years later, RJ received an additional donation from Erik Rönnberg, to be used for research on early childhood diseases. The candidates for the grants are nominated by Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm.

At an award ceremony on 23 March 2006, two scholarships were granted for the period 1 January 2006 – 31 December 2008.

The scholarship for research on the aging process and age-related diseases was awarded to Angel Cedaz-Minguez.

The other scholarship, for studying early childhood diseases was awarded to Kajsa Bolin.
