RJ supports Plan S

Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ) has for the past 10 years supported research results to be published with open access (OA). It is therefore logical that RJ now has decided to join cOAlition S in order to support the main target and principles of PLAN S.

The coalition comprises of several research councils and foundations, including Wellcome Trust. By 2020, the coalition would like scientific publications originating from publicly funded research provided by participating national and European research councils and funding bodies, to be published in compliant Open Access Journals or Open Access Platforms.

- The Board of Directors of the RJ decided in 2009 to actively support the development of research results being freely available by publishing with Open Access. RJ has funded the costs, followed up on developments and seen that our requirements work well. Now it is crucial to continue the work and support towards open science, says Göran Blomqvist, CEO of RJ.

Plan S was initiated by Science Europe, the European Commission and the European Research Council ERC. Science Europe is an association of European research financiers and research executives.

- By joining cOAlition S, the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, one of the most prestigious Foundations in Europe reconfirms its commitment to full and immediate Open Access and passes the clear message that the results of research funded by Foundations should not be locked behind paywalls, says Robert-Jan Smits, Open Access Envoy of the European Commission.
