Pro Futura is a postdoctoral cutting-edge research programme that provides particularly distinguished junior researchers the opportunity to devote more time to free research.
The programme is a collaboration with Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS), one of Europe’s leading institutes of advanced studies.
It is not possible to apply to the Pro Futura programme. Instead, specific universities and university colleges are invited to nominate up to four researchers per higher education institution. In the last few years, a handful of foreign higher education institutions are also invited to nominate researchers to Pro Futura.
Eligible researchers will have previously completed their PhD no less than three years ago and no more than eight years ago. The selection is a two-step process, and the nominees are evaluated by international and Swedish senior leading researchers. The first step involves the selection committee reviewing the CVs and research plans for all nominees and then choosing some to be called to interviews. Then the selection committee reads the nominated candidates’ doctoral theses and an additional three scholarly works by each nominee. Of the nominated candidates, between 10 and 20 per cent are accepted to the programme.
Pro Futura researchers are financed for five years, and at least two of these are to be at SCAS or other cutting-edge research institute abroad.
