Visiting scholar Tokyo College
Riksbankens Jubileumsfond is now offering the opportunity for a residential fellowship at Tokyo College, The University of Tokyo’s English-language, multidisciplinary Institute for Advanced Studies.
As part of Riksbankens Jubileumsfond’s (RJ) efforts to strengthen the internationalisation of Swedish research in the humanities and social sciences, the Foundation offers grants for residential fellowships at multiple institutes for advanced studies. Tokyo College is one of The University of Tokyo’s four institutes for advanced studies and the only one that is English-language and multidisciplinary. Established in 2019, Tokyo College is an independent environment led by researchers who are also active part-time at various departments at The University of Tokyo.
The main purpose of being a visiting scholar at Tokyo College is to enable the scholar to concentrate on their own research, free from teaching and administrative obligations at their home institution. Visiting scholars at Tokyo College are expected to participate in seminars and academic events beyond their own fields of specialisation. The connection to The University of Tokyo enables the visiting scholar to establish contacts with leading Japanese researchers in various disciplines.
RJ is a foundation working to make Swedish research more cross-disciplinary, both geographically and thematically. Researchers are offered access to several internationally renowned institutes in the humanities and social sciences. Previously, researchers have been able to apply to four institutes for advanced studies: the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, L’Institut d’études avancées de Paris, The Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study in South Africa, and Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.
To foster lasting networks and collaborations that benefit the Swedish research community, researchers receive funding to organise, for example, conferences and seminars at their Swedish institutions or to participate in research collaborations.
RJ assesses and prioritises applications in consultation with Tokyo College.
