The importance of a local learning centre in a local labour market – How to retain and develop talent and labour in a knowledge-intensive age? (LOCAL)
Campus Varberg was established in 2003 as a learning center aimed at meeting local and regional needs for qualified labor. It serves as a meeting place, education broker, and engine for regional development. The proposed project investigates how well the learning center has contributed to retaining people in the area, increasing the level of education, and attracting new residents.
Four research questions will be addressed: 1) To what extent has Campus Varberg contributed to people who wish to pursue education staying in the region? 2) To what extent has Campus Varberg contributed to highly educated labor establishing themselves in the region? 3) Why have students chosen to study at Campus Varberg? 4) How do students view the opportunities to remain in the region after graduation?
The project employs both quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative methods are based on data from Statistics Sweden (LISA), which will be analyzed using statistical methods such as Difference-in-Differences (DiD) and Fixed Effects (FE). The qualitative methods are based on focus group interviews with students at Campus Varberg and analyzed using content analysis.
The project will run for three years in collaboration with Campus Varberg, including regular project meetings, knowledge generation, joint events, external communication, and dissemination of results. This collaboration will help Campus Varberg develop its competence in attracting and retaining talent in the area.
