The aim of the project is to bring out an edition of all Esaias Tegnér's sermons and homilies with a scholarly commentary included. The work is being done at the request of Tegnérsamfundet ("The Tegnér Society") within the framework of its edition of Tegnér's complete works. The society has previously edited and published Tegnérs letters (Tegnér/Palmborg 1953-1976), poems (Tegnér/Böök et al. 1964-1996) and secular speeches. (Tegnér/Böök et al. 1964-1996). The only thing missing to complete the edition are the sermons and homilies. These works of Tegnérs have so far received very little attention and it is therefore important that the works are made available, firstly due to his unique position in the Swedish cultural life at the time and secondly the great significance he still has within our Swedish cultural history. The project will result in two printed works - on the one hand the sermons and homilies with a critical commentary, and on the other hand in a volume which from a rhetorical, stylistic, theological and historico-cultural perspective discusses the different types of speeches he made at ordinations, visitations and other services.
