Surveys in the Swedish Parliament

The purpose of the project “Riksdagsundersökningarna i Sverige” () is to secure opportunities for future social science research based on a series of surveys consisting of interviews and questionnaires with all members of the Riksdag, hitherto on eight occasions. The surveys consisting of eight questionnaires in 1969, 1985, 1988, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2002 and 2006 are unique, not least because of the high response rates achieved on all occasions (90-95 per cent). The objective of the project is to document surveys that have already been conducted and to supplement and digitise the material to create an archive. The project also aims to prepare panel studies based on the material spanning a forty-year period. Through documentation, publication and archival digitisation, the project design will make sure that the material can serve as background material in future research about the Riksdag and our system of representative democracy. The project therefore provides a clear basis for future research. The surveys present opportunities to highlight issues of great interest to national and international social science research
