The project is today a continuous project financed by The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation since the year 2000. The project is one of the results from a one year preliminary study about a Swedish Sámi bibliography. The preliminary study ended in the conclusion that to realize the bibliography there are two posts needed, one who is responsible for the retrospective material until 1998, and one post for the current material from 1999 onwards. This project is responsible for the material printed until 1998. Printed bibliographies about the subject covers the period 1950-1980. After that and before 1950 there are gaps that are partly looked after by other libraries and bibliographies. Some works are not registered at all. Those who search for information about the Sámi culture will find the literature very dispersed and difficult to find. This often results in a duplication of work from the producers.
The project aims to make accessible and rationalize search for Sámi literature as follows: (1) To register articles from the periodical Samefolket, covering volumes 1918-1998. (2) To register that part of Lars Thomasson's bibliographies left to be registered. (3) To revise the c. 1,500 remaining records in LIBRIS database not yet gone through. (4) To go through several periodicals, e.g. those dealing with anthropology and cultural history. (5) To go through various report series.
