The Political Sociology of the Welfare State: Institutions, Social Cleavages and Preferences (ISP)
This is a multi-disciplinary research program (the ISP Program) that analyses attitude formation and political/social cleavages in the Swedish welfare state over the last decades. The researchers are Sociologists and Political Scientists. They have common interests in analysing how institutions are both grounded in, and have repercussive effects on, attitudes, values and preferences in the population. The program consists of four empirical studies: (1) Class and attitudes in comparative perspective. (2) Changing political cleavages. (3) Political accountability in Europe. (4) Changing national identities: A comparative analysis.
The data sets that are used stem from well-established longstanding international and national collaborations where the participants of the program have been involved, such as: International Social Survey Program (ISSP) 1992-, European Social Survey (ESS) 2002, Swedish Election Studies 1956-2002, European Voter, The European Election Study, The SOM surveys 1986-, The Welfare State Surveys 1981-2002
